It is clear by the state of our nation, that diets just do not work. People are growing more and more overweight with each passing year despite the plethora of diet pills, diet plans and diet solutions. There is only one real way to lose weight and that is to take the control of your life and your eating habits back and change how you look at food on a daily basis.

The first step in permanent weight loss is to change the way we look at food. For far too long, people have celebrated with food, cried with food and allowed food to become the center of their world. When things go well in life, food is always there. When times are tough and we need a friend, food is there to comfort our tears. This control and friendship with food, can change and manifest into an obsession that causes us to gain weight. Taking back the power over our own bodies means eating to live and not living to eat.

In order to take back that control, every person will need to look carefully into their own lives. Food plays a far different role for one person than another. This role and the weaknesses unique to you, need to be the center of your new eating plan. Identify your problem areas with foods, create a way to eliminate the problem foods and any situations surrounding these foods and fill in the new gap with a healthier food choice that is very similar to the food you eliminated.

In addition to reducing or removing those trouble foods, working on portion sizes, controlling sugars and simple carbohydrates, and adding exercise to a daily life plan are all great places to make the needed changes to lose weight. The key is to take this new life one step at a time. One week may be all about studying the right amount of foods to eat with each meal and the next about adding 10 minutes of exercise to your life each day.

Education will be the best friend any person trying to lose weight will have. Learning about the right foods to eat, the right sizes for each meal and the caloric needs for the body will all help to make this new life one you can live with and lose weight with. Healthy eating knowledge is better than any diet pill, diet plan or diet solution in a box. Your life deserves the time and attention to making those healthy choices.

The perfect easy weight loss method has still to be discovered; despite some methods that are debatable however, a number of proven systems that help shed pounds healthily do exist. One of biggest draw-backs to many diets is the “forbidden” foods list. It is human nature to desire the things we know we can’t have, and this seems to magnify when you’re on a diet. Dieting is difficult enough without the disappointment of having to eat foods you don’t like.

You will be pleased to learn that this is something that cannot be said about the South Beach Diet. If the question of what you can eat on this diet arises, it would be far quicker to tell you what you cannot eat!

There is no “forbidden fruit” on the South Beach Diet. This program simply teaches you how to enjoy the foods you love in a healthier way. For example, if you are a meat lover, the South Beach Diet doesn’t say, “You can never eat red meat again!” Rather, the South Beach Diet teaches you how to eat red meat sensibly, by choosing smaller, leaner cuts.

When you are first considering the South Beach Diet, have a long look at Phase 1. This is the most restricted part of the diet, yet you will find it is surprisingly varied and quite a few of the things you would expect you are not allowed are there on the menu.

Low in fat or fat free cheese along with beef, pork, eggs, low fat lunch meat and poultry are all allowed so long as you avoid greasy or fatty portions. For all you seafood lovers, you will be delighted to discover that products from the sea are allowed and even encouraged throughout all phases of the South Beach Diet. If you have a sweet tooth, that’s no problem, but you must keep your sweet allowance to 75 calories each day. Phase 1 is the strictest part of the diet but you still have the choice to include your favorite foods so you can see that this diet will be easy to stick to.

One of the reasons the South Beach Diet is so successful, is that you learn how to adapt your own recipes to make them healthier. Phase 1 restricts you to using only canola oil or olive oil, but you will find this actually enhances the taste of your food. You are also advised to use low-fat dairy products during Phase 1, but this is only for two weeks. From that point on, preparing home-cooked meals is a breeze.

Once you hit Phase 2, you are once again allowed to eat fruits and grains. Because of the cleansing your body undergoes during Phase 1, though, you won’t crave these foods like you did before. Your body is now better equipped to process the foods you eat and that will help you continue to lose weight until you achieve your weight loss goal.

If you are in the market for hoodia diet pills, you have probably heard about CITES certificates. CITES certificates can help you locate pure hoodia gordonii products and steer you away from products that don’t use pure hoodia. I often wonder how many consumers really understand what CITES certificates are all about and what they represent in the hoodia market. I hope this article will shed some light on the topic for you.

The hoodia gordonii plant is a protected plant that is in high demand. This cactus looking plant used to only grow in the wilds of South Africa. However, the increased demand for the plant, because of its weight loss properties, has prompted many people to begin farming the plant. This led South Africa to put regulations on the plant. Regulations that not only would protect the plant, but the San people who claim it as their native plant. There are controls in place that now regulate the growing, harvesting and exportation of the hoodia gordonii plant.

As a consumer, one of the regulations that you should know about is the CITES certificate. While there are other documents involved in the hoodia gordonii trade market, I am going to limit this article to the discussion of the CITES certificate. CITES stands for the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. The certificate serves as an international agreement between countries that, in essence, protects the plant from being threatened due to trade.

What this means is for someone to come in and export hoodia gordonii out of South Africa, they must first get a permit from CITES. Export permits from CITES must accompany all shipments of hoodia gordonii out of South Africa. It’s important to understand that these export permits are only good for six months. The permit holder must export the plant out within six months, or they must reapply and start the process over and obtain a new CITES permit.

This is important to understand because there is some confusion in the hoodia industry about the dates shown on CITES permits. People are led to believe that CITES permits must be “current” in order to be valid, otherwise they don’t mean anything. They mistakenly believe that if the CITES certificate is older than six months the company must be lying or must be trying to pull a fast one on the consumer. In some instances an “old” CITES certificate may be just that, but it is not necessarily the rule.

Suppose a supplier exports several thousand kilograms of hoodia on one permit, and that inventory of hoodia gordonii doesn’t actually sell out for eight or nine months. The original CITES permit, along with the original issue date shown on the permit, will always be attached to that inventory. Even though the date on the CITES permit will be older than six months, that CITES permit is still valid and still provides proof that the hoodia gordonii used is authentic. Keep that in mind as you are looking at CITES certificates from companies you are considering buying from. An older date doesn’t necessarily mean the CITES permit is invalid and the hoodia gordonii used isn’t real.

Something that is important for you to know is a CITES certificate may have a different company’s name on it than the company you are purchasing the hoodia products from. This means you may go to the XYZ Company to purchase hoodia supplements and upon viewing their CITES certificate you see the supplier’s name is ABC Company. The names on the CITES permits may not always match up.

There are only a few suppliers who are issued CITES permits. Supplement companies then buy their hoodia gordonii from these few suppliers. In the example above, Supplier Incorporated is listed on the permit so that means they were the actual supplier that exported the hoodia gorodnii. Helen’s Health Company is displaying a CITES certificate issued to Supplier Incorporated so that means Helen’s Health purchased the hoodia gordonii they use in their products from Supplier Incorporated.

Finally, just because a CITES certificate is displayed on a website doesn’t mean the company uses as much authentic hoodia gordonii as they claim. Hoodia products are classified as supplements so they are not regulated. As a result, companies can make claims that aren’t necessarily true. For example, you may be interested in a hoodia diet pill that contains 500mg of hoodia gordonii per capsule. You go to the company’s website and sure enough, they display a CITES permit so you immediately think the product is authentic.

The CITES permit doesn’t regulate what happens to the plant once it’s exported. The CITES certificate only serves as a sign that pure hoodia gordonii plants were exported from South Africa. A supplement company can do whatever they want with it once it is in their possession. They may even claim to be packaging 500mg of hoodia gordonii into their capsules when they really may not be.

Now that you have a better understanding of what the CITES certificate is and what its role is, you know why looking for one is important when trying to find authentic hoodia gordonii diet pills and products.
