My mother-in-law wants her son fitter not fatter. That is why she is happy to see LESS of him these days. She heard that he has discovered body type exercises that are a prefect match for him and she is thrilled with the result.

This mom loves her son dearly but has never gotten used to the idea of him leaving town to live elsewhere (with anyone else)! It is unbelievable that a mother like this would ever be pleased to see ‘less’ of her son but she is. Why? She doesn’t want him to repeat her own unhealthy lifestyle and develop her poor health.

As a busy mom she ate the wrong foods and gained pounds that saw her consistently overweight and never fit enough. She had no idea of the positive impact of carefully selected body type exercises and never had time to investigate this. As a result she now suffers from high cholesterol, Type 2 Diabetes and a recently had a stroke.

Now she weighs less than at any time in her married life. Her cholesterol levels have dropped but, unfortunately, her life is ruled by diabetes. She wants her adult kids to take their health and well being seriously, by following a good diet, and exercising regularly.

Much to her delight, her son has lost 11 pounds already, has heaps more energy and is well on the road to better health. His most exciting discovery has been about the nature of his endomorphic body type. Now he knows how to combine new programs of body type exercises for his body and get the best results.

Now my mother-in-law tells anyone who will listen about her son’s weight loss and his healthier lifestyle. She explains that he has always struggled with this because he never fully understood how some exercises are best for each body type. She says that she is sure he will lose even more weight as he continues to eat well and speed up his metabolism through the right kind of body type exercises.

The last time my husband visited his mother, she noticed his reduced body fat and trimmer waist. She said that he looked as lean and handsome as he did on our wedding day, like his old self. She is delighted that he looks so much healthier and has even started regular body type exercises that are right for her.

As we set off home, she smiled. The she said ‘Hope to see Less of You Son’. We never thought we would hear those words!

PS. News Update. Her next door neighbors plan to move. A worrying thought..

I searched for a solution to my see-sawing weight and poor shape for most of my adolescence and early adulthood. I know I’m not alone and that at some stage most of us want to find ways to lose weight and become fitter. When I realized that most popular diets and exercise programs did not help me over the long term, I decided to approach this from another angle.

Like me, see if following diets and joining gyms have failed to bring about any permanent change when you check yourself in the bathroom mirror. I was shocked with what I saw when I did, but this drove me to find a way to lose my unwanted body fat and keep this weight off. Interestingly the secret I discovered is a simple one but it is often overlooked by others.

Obese bodies generally get that way over time from the small things we do on a daily basis. Weight just slowly creeps on until we look fat and have way less energy than we need. To reverse this unhealthy look and feel, to find reliable ways to lose weight and to reclaim our healthy body, we need to change the behavior that brought this on.

How do we start to identify these ways to lose weight? Slowly, just as we gained this weight, by making small, healthy changes over time. Some are related to the nutrition in our diet, others to our exercise and lifestyle.

Introduce gradual changes into your day-to-day living. Don’t survive the pain of weight loss, then throw out any changes that brought this about when you reach your goal weight. Don’t ignore the pounds that gradually slip back on. Eating healthy foods, by cutting out just some of those that you know you should avoid and replacing these with healthier alternatives is just one of the ways to lose weight without feeling overwhelmed.

To avoid obesity and maintain the right body fat, balance the amount and type of food you eat with your daily exercise. It is not a case of Once past the Lips Forever on the Hips. Rather it is Once past the Lips without Exercise will see this happen.

Exercise is one of the most effective ways to lose weight and can be as small as walking to collect the Sunday paper from the store. Whatever you decide to do to speed up your metabolism, start slowly and set achievable goals. It is the Hare and Tortoise story again and we know who won that race!

Weight loss can show itself in more ways than just the pounds on your bathroom scales. Remember to keep details of inches lost around your stomach as well as your hips and chest so that you can that you can see all aspects of your changing body shape.

Make sure that you include progress incentives for your ability to lose and keep weight off. A new piece of jewellery or a new gadget are probably better than eating treats and are known to be very successful ways to lose weight!

If you are prepared to look at what you presently eat and how you exercise and then start to change this little by little making the right choices, you will lose and keep weight off and stay healthy. By doing this you will be able to enjoy the benefits of sure-fire ways to lose weight that will re-shape your body and your life like I did.

There is one thing which is a certainty in the area of losing fat and building muscle – this is that exercise is an essential element. Everyone knows that more calories must be burned off than taken in in order to lose weight – and of course, to gain muscle mass, the muscles must be worked out. Despite that everyone knows this; there is still much debate and many misconceptions about how best to lose weight while building muscle. There is a wrong way to go about this, however; this is to do only cardiovascular workouts.

Cardiovascular exercise is a tried and true way to help somebody lose weight. However, it is not the best way or the only way. Losing weight through cardiovascular exercise alone requires a great deal of time spent and depending on your intensity and time spent, it can be a slow and dragged out process. Additionally, by doing only the same exercises over and over, you and your body can both reach a plateau where you no longer see any effective improvements.

As mentioned, cardiovascular exercise takes up a load of your free time. For some people this is an inconvenience, but for many other people this is just flat out impossible. Not everyone can pick up and trek to the gym for 15 hours a week. Plus with cardiovascular exercise, it takes time for your body to warm up and even get into calorie burning mode.

While cardiovascular exercises will certainly lead to improvements in your heart and lungs, your bones and joints may be paying the price. For example, the consistent and constant pounding that your knees and shins take while running or jogging can severely damage those body parts. Not only is this bad for your long term health, but it can make it harder to workout in the short term as well.

Cardiovascular exercises need to be done more than just several times a week for maximum results. When each of these sessions has to last for at least an hour, that’s a big time commitment that people should not be forced to make. When you skip a day or two, you can immediately regress because your body has been relying on those long workouts to burn off the energy it has.

With cardio exercises, one must get into what is known as the fat burning zone if you want to see any real results. Calories are burned to some extent with any kind of exercise, but it is next to impossible to burn fat while you are exercising at low intensity. Thus the fat burning zone is very hard fro newcomers to get into; this is a very fast pace which is required.

Cardio exercises also do not do well for those trying to gain muscle. Most cardio exercises only work out the lower half of your body – the legs and abdomen. Cardio exercises like running and bicycling simply do not work out the upper body, meaning additional exercises are needed to work out these muscle groups.

With all of these disadvantages to classic cardiovascular workout programs and exercises, it is important to realize that you can still grab up all of the benefits, without the disadvantages. You can do this through turbulence training. You’ll be able to work your heart and your lungs, without having to run or do high intensity programs. You can save your bones and joints from unnecessary stresses and you can do it all in less time, making it superior to the cardiovascular exercises of yesterday.

Today I went to a new hair stylist. As you know, there is always a lot of social chitchat when you are having your hair cut and colored. This was no exception with my new friend Amy, who like me is passionate about every day exercise.

We discovered that we were both interested in weight loss through a healthy diet and exercise. We discussed our individual approaches and took note of each others’ successes.

Amy needs to drop about 20 pounds and she says she won’t feel overweight then. She is a mom of two boys and her husband has an equally busy schedule and job. Despite the demands of home and her work, Amy has developed an every day exercise program that she can follow regularly.

I was really impressed to hear how she has rearranged her very full work hours. She now allows time for every day exercise. She tells me that she is serious about reclaiming her wedding day body and health.

Amy convinced me of the importance of using portable monitors to gauge my heart rate the calories I burn. This will be additional information to the distance I walk recorded on my pedometer. My new heart monitor will be especially helpful as it will inform me of the level of cardiac fitness in my work outs.

If your heart rate is around 70 beats per minute you need to exercise so that you maintain consistently a heart rate of somewhere between 90 and 100 beats per minute. Maintaining an elevated heart rate improves your overall fitness and contributes not only to cardiovascular efficiency but also helps you to lose weight. Amy and I agree that increasing our heart rate is an important goal in our every day exercise.

Amy was most excited when she shared how staying motivated helped her keep her healthy eating and every day exercise program going. She works out with a fitness friend to ‘keep her honest’. They build in rewards they reach set goals along the way and their family and friends support and encourage them.

I know that every day exercise can get a little dreary and you need to know whether you are making any gains so it is essential that you actually chart your progress. This can be either for changes in body shape or reduction in the circumference of various parts of your body for example your butt, your waist, or your upper arms, or your chest.

To make sure that these records are all consistent, she measures and weighs at the same time of the day and with enough time between each measurement to allow time to make progress. Even when one aspect of her progress plateaus, another will improve. She has the ways to accurately monitor her losses all worked out!

I am impressed with Amy. If, with her buddy she can head towards a fitter body by staying committed to every day exercise, charting their progress, enlisting supporters, building in rewards, and using different instruments to read her progress along the way, I can learn from her enthusiasm and organization and get fitter and healthier too.

Unfortunately home exercise equipment is never cheap, which means it is really important to invest in the right machine. For effective weight loss, you need to find out which piece of equipment is best at helping to burn up those excess calories.

The two market leaders in terms of number of sales are treadmills and ellipticals, and many people will argue about which piece of equipment is the best. Naturally since you are the person who will be using the machine, you have to come to your own personal decision about which you like best, but there is a definite answer to the argument about which one burns the most calories.

Both machines are able to help you burn the same out calories, depending on how you exercise with them. Working out on an elliptical can burn as many calories as running on a treadmill.

Many people find that running on a treadmill is too intense for their joints – it is true that a workout on a treadmill can have a very deep impact on your body. If you find that you cannot run on a treadmill, then a workout on an elliptical can be just as effective at burning calories, and will have a lesser impact on your joints and muscles.

If you chose to run on a treadmill at around 7 mph for an hour, your body would use about 783 calories. Use an elliptical trainer, and you should expect to use up about 774 calories – so the numbers are more or less identical. However, if you only walked on the treadmill at 3 mph, your body would burn just 297 calories, which is a massive difference!

The number of calories your body burns on an elliptical really does all depend on how you use the machine and the approach you take to your workout. Some people prefer to exercise in a moderate, gentle way, whereas others charge in an give themselves a very intense workout.

To consider which exercise machine will give you the better workout and help you burn more calories, think about which one you will enjoy most. Which machine will motivate you to get up and move?

If you simply love walking, jogging, or running, then you want to invest in a treadmill. It’s much better than walking on the surface of the street. But if burning calories is your main concern, you’ll need to make sure that you increase the speed and up the incline.

If you are someone who has experienced problems with the knees or ankle joints, or perhaps you just want to enjoy an exercise routine with a lower impact on your body, then an elliptical trainer is the machine for you. Elliptical trainers are also an excellent choice for the older person, as they are much gentler to the body while still making sure you burn calories. Perhaps if you have the space and can afford, you could even invest in both machines, allowing you to add an element of variety to your workouts.
